IntoUniversity is a charity that aims to help disadvantaged young people in the UK gain a place within a higher education establishment. Khadija Saye received support with her learning and encouragement for her ambitions at IntoUniversity for over ten years, getting help with her homework through the Academic Support programme and going on educational and cultural trips to expand her horizons. From the age of seven, Khadija Saye’s artistic talent was nurtured by IntoUniversity through the Carnival Arts Programme where her instinctive creativity was ignited, nurtured and developed over successive summers.

Khadija Saye Arts at IntoUniversity was founded in 2019 by Nicola Green and IntoUniversity.

It is a programme established to address the lack of diversity in the UK Arts and Cultural Sector.

Khadija Saye Arts at IntoUniversity is run by IntoUniversity at all their centres, serving over 35,000 disadvantaged young people aged 7 and up, across 31 local community learning centres.

Young people with an interest and passion for art are motivated and championed through mentoring, after school opportunities, academic support and aspiration-raising activities, with a focus on exploring and considering the possibilities of creative studies and careers - not only as practitioners – visual artists, actors, architects, designers – but also the professions that support the creation of art; from curating and directing, to conservation and technical support.

This diverse range of creative activities, incorporated into IntoUniversity’s already established programmes, allows for creative and imaginative expression across a variety of disciplines, enabling students to discover their own strengths. It focuses on broadening horizons beyond the curriculum to include the arts, through the following:

  • Exposure

Providing high quality experiences of a variety of Arts through trips, workshops and work experience.

  • Knowledge

Developing and embedding the understanding of Arts options throughout the IntoUniversity programme and guiding young people through their subject choice, course and other important career decisions.

  • Skills

Giving young people the opportunity to develop existing skills and learn new skills required to be successful in the Arts.

We are delighted to have raised over £30,000 so far. You can support the Khadija Saye Arts programme by donating to the fund. Your gift could help us to:

  • £250- provide resources for an Arts-themed holiday programme, enabling young people to extend their learning and explore creative subjects during the school holidays which they might not otherwise have the opportunity to.

  • £500- give 20 Secondary pupils an insight into future study and careers in the creative sector through our Careers in FOCUS programme, with workshops led by professional volunteers working within a variety of roles within the Arts sector.

  • £1,350- provide 20 Secondary school pupils with a ‘Music Charity’ business simulation day hosted at a corporate partner. Students are immersed in a real-world activity of running their own creative organisation including pitching for funding, developing marketing strategies and planning the logistics of performances.

  • £5,000- allow 90 Year 5 pupils to take part in one of our Arts-themed FOCUS Days, spending a full day at our local centre exploring a new creative topic and developing their curiosity in the Arts.

  • £25,000- Support an Education Worker at our specialist Arts centre in north Birmingham. Each Education Worker manages a strand of our programme and works with local schools, business, volunteers and our partner Birmingham City University to deliver engaging Arts-themed programmes to over 900 local young people.

  • £50,000- fund a term of Primary Academic Support, delivering an Arts-themed ‘degree’ topic for 360 primary students across six of our centres. Students explore a creative subject studied at university level, for example History of Art, whilst practicing numeracy and literacy, increasing their knowledge of future options and raising their aspirations to study the Arts.

  • £100,000- enable 350 Year 6 pupils across London to participate in an Arts-themed Primary FOCUS week, engaging them in an intensive week of interactive and inspiring arts learning. The week culminates in a visit to university where pupils learn about degrees and careers in the arts sector.

  • £300,000- Sponsor a centre within the IntoUniversity network to become a specialist Arts centre over five years. The centre will deliver innovative and broad ranging programmes for local 7-18 year olds, engaging them in all aspects of the Arts and creative industries. The centre will help address the lack of diversity within the UK Arts sector, providing opportunities to 1,000 children within the community it serves.
